Introducing....

"BAGA!" -Or, more commonly called by people over three feet tall- rutabaga! Yes, this charming vegetable debuted on Charlotte's high chair tray last week and I HOPE it will be here to stay! I've been holding my breath all week and have been afraid to get too excited, but she seems to be tolerating it well, aside from some skin rashes/eczema. No belly pain (in fact, the first night I served it to her she slept for 7 hours straight, compared to her normal 3!) no irritability, no clinginess. I'm not sure if I should worry about her skin- I emailed the doctor for clarification of how I should know when a rash indicates an intolerance which would prevent the body from healing, or when the body is simply detoxifying through the skin as it heals. This seems to be a gray area and it's all confusing. I want to make sure I'm not shooting myself in the foot and prolonging healing by rushing to add veggies if she's not ready... but I don't want to be afraid to up the ante, either. I'm so excited to be able to offer her something besides "MEAT" and "BROF!" Apparently rutabaga is low in phenols, a type of food chemical. I will pursue low-phenol vegetables and see what else that little tummy might be able to handle.Tomorrow I hope to get up to Whole Foods and look for more organic rutabagas and some leeks to try next. Thanks for your prayers!! One victory like this encourages my heart so much.
